AKB48 24th Single Senbatsu to be decided by Janken

Like last year's 19th single 'Chance no Junban', there would be a Janken Tournament for AKB48's 24th single, which would be held on the 20th of September at the Nippon Budoukan. All AKB48 members and kenkyuuseis, 5 SKE members, and 5 NMB48 members would be taking part in this tournament. There would be a preliminary round for the SKE48 and NMB48 members, where only 5 participants would be chosen for the Janken Tournament. The top 16 members of the tournament would make up the 24th single's Senbatsu (19th single for last year) and the remaining members would be either in Undergirls or Theater Girls.

Last year, when it was announced during the 'Surprise wa Arimasen Concert' at Yoyogi National Gymnasium on 11 July 2010, which brought much shock and mixed reactions amongst fans. The results of last years also brought mixed reactions, with quite a handful of fans being disappointed and not buying the 19th single. I am actually rather okay with it as through this single, the not so popular members at least can get the chance to be at the front, which is not possible unless the management gives enough push by promoting them, considering the front members already have a considerable amount of fans.

Here are the results for last year:
---Senbatsu---
01. Uchida Mayumi
02. Ishida Haruka
03. Kojima Haruna
04. Nakagawa Haruka
05. Maeda Ami
06. Sato Sumire
07. Sato Natsuki
08. Takajo Aki
09. Nakatsuka Tomomi
10. Kuramochi Asuka
11. Kobayashi Kana
12. Tanabe Miku
12. Kasai Tomomi
13. Matsui Sakiko
14. Maeda Atsuko
15. Chikano Rina

This year, the announcement of the 24th single's Janken Tournament was made during the AKB48's Everyday Kachuusha big handshake event and it wasn't that surprising to me as compared to last year. Already expected it to happen as the singles released seems to follow a pattern.

16th single (Ponytail to Shushu) and 21st single (Everyday Kachuusha), both released in May of 2010 and 2011 respectively, contains the voting serial number for the 2nd and 3rd Senbatsu Elections respectively. The PVs for both single's cover tracks are also similar in a way, bikini girls. >//<

17th single (Heavy Rotation) and 22nd single (Flying Get), both released/to be released in August of 2010 and 2011 respectively, are the first singles right after the Senbatsu Elections and it was predicted that the singing styles of both to be similar. In fact, the singing style of 'Heavy Rotation' is rather similar to 'Iiwake Maybe', cover song for the 13th single, which is the first single right after the 1st Senbatsu Elections.

For the 23rd single, it was announce that it would be released in October. Both the 14th single's (River) and the 18th single's (Beginner) theme are rather fierce and thus the 23rd single was predicted by fans, including me, to be similarly themed too.

Coming back to the 24th single, it was already predicted to be similar as last year's 19th single (Chance no Junban) where the Senbatsu members for the single would be decided by a Janken Tournament. Thus not really surprising to most fans.

Last year I was really happy that my oshimen, Akicha (Takajo Aki), made it into the Senbatsu at the 8th position but am also quite disappointed that my second favourite member, Yukirin (Kashiwagi Yuki), did not make it into the Senbatsu at all.

This year I hope that both Akicha and Yukirin can make it into the Senbatsu for this 24th single. Wish them the best of luck for the tournament! Additionally, I also hope that Paruru (Shimazaki Haruka), Matsui Rena (SKE48), Matsui Jurina (SKE48) and/or Yamamoto Sayaka (NMB48) would make it into Senbatsu too! Last year, when Paruru was still in Kenkyuusei, only 4 members from Team Kenkyuusei was chosen to participate in last year's tournament, and she was not chosen. This year, it would be the first time for Paruru and for the members of SKE48 and NMB48. I shall also wish them the best of luck. ^^
